Coating & Color Options for Fiber Cement

Any color from any major exterior paint brand can be matched. Choose one of the standard colors below or give us the color code from any major brand of exterior paint — we apply it in our climate-controlled Western North Carolina facility at manufacturer-specified film thickness.

Key Facts

  • Any color from any major exterior paint brand can be matched — bring us the color name or code.
  • Finishes include solid colors (30-year warranty) and NWT stain-look finishes (15-year warranty) that mimic semi-transparent wood stain on cedar-textured boards.
  • Coatings are applied in our climate-controlled Western North Carolina facility at manufacturer-specified film thickness.
  • Factory finishing removes weather, dust and temperature — the three main causes of premature field-paint failure on cement board.

Why factory finishing outlasts field painting

Paint fails early on fiber cement for predictable reasons: application below minimum temperature, moisture in the board, dust and pollen contamination, and thin film build from spraying in wind. A factory line controls all four. The board arrives clean and dry, coating is applied at the specified wet-film thickness, and it cures indoors. Pre-finishing is recommended by both paint and siding manufacturers: the finish lasts as long as it is designed to, and the manufacturers’ warranties apply because it was applied by a certified pre-finisher. That is the difference between a 7-to-15-year repaint cycle and a finish that carries a 30-year (solid) or 15-year (NWT stain) warranty from day one. Read about our pre-finishing process ⇒

Solid colors vs. stain-look finishes

Solid-color finishes behave like premium exterior paint: full opacity, maximum UV protection, any hue, backed by a 30-year warranty. NWT stain-look finishes are semi-transparent systems applied to cedar-embossed fiber cement so the wood grain shows through — the look of stained cedar with none of its upkeep, backed by a 15-year warranty. Stain-look finishes are the reason a fiber cement house can pass for wood at ten feet.

How color matching works

  1. Pick any color — from our standard palette below or any major brand’s fan deck (Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, PPG, Behr, etc.).
  2. We produce a color-applied sample on the actual product you are buying and ship it free in the continental US.
  3. On approval, your entire order — siding, trim, soffit and matching touch-up kit — is finished in a single batch.

These finishes apply to every profile we carry: fiber cement siding, lap siding, shingles & shakes and board & batten.

Coating Life Expectency

Our life expectancy timelines provide a realistic expectation of how long a finish might last. The life expectancy of a finish is highly dependent on type and degree of exposure to external/environmental factors. These timelines are NOT warranties.

Custom Color Matching

We specialize in custom colors. Choose from the color palette of any paint brand and we can match it with solid color stain or paint. Have a special color in mind? Provide a sample and we can do that too.

While transparent and semi-transparent colors are more difficult to custom match, we use the most popular brands including Cabot, Sherwin Williams, Duckback, Olympic, and Sikkens. This means you have extraordinary variety.

Manufacturer warranties are available for many of the finishes we offer. Copies of warranties are included with your order.

Frequently Asked Questions

A physical color chip or code gives an exact match; photos shift with lighting. Send the code — every major brand prints one on the swatch.

Yes — unlike vinyl, fiber cement does not warp from heat gain, so deep and dark palettes are safe. Some manufacturers publish LRV (light reflectance value) guidance for warranty purposes; we finish within those specs.

Solid-color finishes carry a 30-year warranty and NWT stain-look finishes carry 15 years. Copies of the warranties ship with your order; they require registration and may require periodic maintenance.
